In reply to EduardoRomero, the following just work for me. It assigns "<left 
windows key>e" to nautilus.
I admit that I never had success in doing this through GUI of 
System/Preferences/Keyboard shortcuts that try to assign "Super L" key 
unsuccessfully.

        gconftool-2 -t str --set 
/apps/metacity/global_keybindings/run_command_1 "<mod4>e"
        gconftool-2 -t str --set /apps/metacity/keybinding_commands/command_1 
"nautilus"
