No. While we have no versioning for each and every file (and I think we
agree that GNOME cannot push this now), the dialog has to be there. You
can't just guess whether the click on the close button means ÂOK, it's
complete. or ÂThis sucks, I'll do it tomorrow, properly. You simply
can't make something the silent default when it's a) dangerous and b)
differs from Windows(R) in behaviour.
We need transparent saving and restoring at session logout and maybe when
the app crashes, not when closing a doc window.
(I actually like the idea of a desktop without the save button. It's
easier to understand for the newbies. However, while relying on current
filesystem technology, this is a pipe dream. And there's the problem of
re-educating the non-newbies.)
