I am going to shout up again here. We need to pimp applications like Sabayon and Pessulus as hard as humanly possible. However, there is also a good case for keeping with our keeping it simple and clean policy. This is why I proposed we create a new group to go with Platform, Desktop, Office and Bindings which I tentatively named Administration. Tools in Administration would have the same guidelines for inclusion as Desktop, the only difference being that they are tools with a little bit more of a specialised use and not useful to everyone who may be using the desktop. For example: at home I have no use for Sabayon or Pessulus or that GNOME based LDAP Admin Tool, all they would serve to do is clutter up my menus, even though I am classed as a 'power user'. Less advanced users would probably just end up locking themselves down somehow (this happened the other night on IRC). Compare and contrast to my work environment, where I might have a lot of use for all three of these tools (or maybe just one or two of them). None the less, I could elect to my package management system that I wanted to install the GNOME Administration set. In fact, I would suggest that the last entry in the System->Administration menu be "Get the GNOME Administration Suite" or something to that effect. By default this would give a rundown of what the GNOME Administration suite. Vendors would then be able to patch in a link to their package management suite. --d -- Davyd Madeley http://www.davyd.id.au/ 08B0 341A 0B9B 08BB 2118 C060 2EDD BB4F 5191 6CDA _______________________________________________ desktop-devel-list mailing list [email protected] http://mail.gnome.org/mailman/listinfo/desktop-devel-list
