My stance is that any application that shows you long blocks of text should use the document font setting, unless the text ought to be in a fixed width font. Text editors should display files in fixed width, unless the user explicitly specifies otherwise. Similarly, email cients should always default to fixed width for plain text email, but HTML email should use the document font setting. If you have a multi-line text field that isn't fixed width, you should seriously consider using the document font setting. The dictionary should use the document font setting.
