It's not an extension to the panel menu code. It's not even a patch. It's a completely separate applet. This is in fact, in no way different than a theme engine in terms of integrating it upstream, into a larger conglomerate package. Why do people keep assuming every change someone does, is a patch? There are much better ways to do a lot of this stuff, than patches, with the architecture we have. And frankly, we need to show ISVs that it can be done, so they will start doing it too.
