Well, you would also be able to open the drive via the Places menu.

Don't get me wrong though. I do like Ross Burton's suggestion to add a
small eject button to disk items in the Places menu, and long term I
think it would be great to have both systems in place. Right now
though, the API doesn't seem to be there to implement Ross's
suggestion.

Needing to navigate into a submenu just to open a disk in Nautilus
seems like a huge cost.
