I would be very interested to see any evidence to back-up this claim. Such evidence would be enough to sway my opinion if Pidgin is dead as you claim. Or maybe everybody is free to work on > the project he likes... We're discussing whether or not to include your project in Gnome, not whether or not you should be allow to develop what you will.
