uhm... weird. I said that lanching gnome-settings-daemon with sudo works somehow. Now, launching gnome-appearance-properties with sudo it works too. Without sudo it doesn't work because it tries to launch gnome-settings-daemon without sudo, or at least, it tries to look for it and notices that it is not running at all. So, the real question is, why can't I run the settings-daemon from a normal user, that is, without using sudo?
