Yo should first contact the current maintainer, Sean de Burca (leftmostcat@ gmail.com), to notice him you are interested in assuming the maintenance of the tool, and he will inform you about any current work in progress, status, etc. Anyway, I could help you with some pending bugs that should be attended... this might be a good way to have a first contact with gtranslator's source code.
