My bad about the Windows sequence. The problem is, this issue is way easier to
trigger than that.

So, since the time I posted the last message, I have had to educate 4 people on
what is going wrong with their keyboard because the Latin mode is going on and
off. I tell them the magic toggle keys and they roll their eyes and rant and
rave. These are just people who have happened to ask me (I am not a Windows or
GNOME expert). I can imagine the problem is very pervasive and there are a lot
of people out there who just can't figure out how to characterize it.

The point is that this is WAY too easy to accidentally turn on and the "Latin"
icon does not mean much to normal users and they see strange behavior which
appears to be a bug. Is there some reason (standardization or otherwise) why
this default can't be changed to something that will only be turned on by a
deliberate set of keystrokes?

Thanks,
Paul
