Xfce works without any problems with gnome notification daemon.
I don't see much differences btw. them. Probably the most important is
that xfce daemon has setting in xfce settings menu/panel.

This could be interesting, if someone would like to have only Xfce desktop.

It's placed in xfce-goodies so it's optional.
