Well, I don't contribute much (anything?) to the Desktop community. Possibly that will change in the future, but for now, I haven't done anything to warrant being granted contributor status within the Desktop community. > A few months ago it was forgivable that the whole process is a bit > cracked, but I fear we are getting to the point where real > contributors will begin to turn away because they aren't recognized > for their contributions. > > I propose the very first step should be to add a brief description of > contributions to the grant for individuals with "contributor" or "core > contributor" status on the > http://opensolaris.org/viewProfile.jspa?username={} page. I would recommend most of the development/QA teams should be granted contributor status. Leaders actively participating in and driving the OpenSolaris Desktop Community should be given core contributor status as the other core contributors see fit. For the specific examples cited above, I think both Ghee and Albert deserve and should be granted at least contributor status.
Though I am flattered by the nomination, I will beg off contributor status for myself now. Beyond participating in mailing list discussions, I haven't actively contributed code, patches, or QA of any kind to the desktop community. I hope this will change with my Songbird work, and if it does - I'll be sure to ask for a grant in the future. cheers, steve -- stephen lau | stevel at opensolaris.org | www.whacked.net
