I don't think the above email explains what we need very well. First
of all, this has nothing to do with MPEG2. Instead the two ISO
documents relate to MPEG1.

Second of all, I do not think we are not stuck with any legal issues.
We want to verify that Sun has the legal permission to ship the Fluendo
MPEG1 plugin. This plugin supports decoding MPEG1 levels 1-3.

The Java Media Player product is already shipped with Solaris and
supports decoding MPEG1 levels 1-3. The same contract that the JMP
product uses allows us to ship the same IP with GStreamer in the JDS
stack. Since JMP supports MPEG1 levels 1-3, we assume that our contract
allows us to ship MPEG1 levels 1-3. This also makes sense since MPEG1
levels 1-2 are subsets of MPEG1 level 3 so it would be unlikely that the
contract would not cover all three levels.

Our legal contract with the MPEG group references that Sun has
permission to ship the IP specified in the above ISO/IEC documents
and we simply want to verify that this does mean that Sun has
permission to ship code that decodes MPEG1 levels 1-3. We have
already talked with SunLegal and they don't seem to have copies
of these ISO documents.

Since we assume that this must have gone through legal review with
the JMP project already, we are hoping that someone at Sun would have
copies of these documents or know where to find them so we can have
them on hand and verify that we are following legal process?
