There is another observation that I want to make regarding using this printer 
on Solaris (SX44 and SX50).  If I leave the printer on when I power on the 
machine, I will receive an "Unsupported Personility: PCL" error printed on the 
pages.  I recall experiencing the same problem with SuSE 10.0 but has been 
since solved.
