I can't answer all of these questions, but the ones I can answer are
answered below:

2. You can't run AD directly on OpenSolaris, but you can bind the
OpenSolaris machine to AD for the sharing of files via the in-kernel
CIFS server

3. This depends on what the clients are doing and what hardware you
choose for the server. Solaris can handle *lots* of clients
potentially.

4. OpenSolaris is free. Support plans are not, and are listed on Sun's site.

5. OpenSolaris can't be directly infected by a virus. There are
several AV vendors that sell products that will install on Solaris and
can then scan files stored on a Solaris-managed filesystem.

6. Download the LiveCD, boot it on this machine, and run the Device
Driver Utility to determine if you have drivers for all your hardware.
Also check the OpenSolaris HCL (internet search will help here).

7. 2008.11 OpenSolaris will install on a 32-bit machine with enough
RAM. It's not recommended due to the memory limit imposed by 32-bit
architecture (no more than 4gb RAM).

8. See answer to #7

9. No. AD is a Windows-only application, though you could perhaps run
a Windows AD server in Xen on OpenSolaris.

10. I'm not sure about migrating 'normal' SQL to MySQL, but yes, MySQL
can be gotten with the 'pkg' tool on OpenSolaris and is totally free,
just like OpenSolaris. Support, of course, is not.

11. I'm not sure where you want to use RSA encryption, but OpenSolaris
definitely supports it. Security has always been a strong point of
Solaris/OpenSolaris.
