Unfortunately, there is no licensed MP3 encoder available for
OpenSolaris. There are some free software modules you could build
yourself which would enable GStreamer based programs (like sound-juicer)
to encode MP3 - libmad, for example.

However, in some countries, like the U.S., you are supposed to pay the
MPEG Association a licensing fee to use such an encoder. You would
need to check with a lawyer to find out if you could download and use
such software without breaking any laws in your country. Unfortunately
the MPEG Association doesn't sell single-use licenses directly to end
users. To date, there is no 3rd party that provides a licensed MP3
encoder for Solaris or Linux.

I would recommend that you consider using the free ogg-vorbis media
format for audio. The quality is better, the compression is better,
and you don't lock your audio data into a non-free non-GPL compatible
proprietary format which requires you pay licensing fees to use and
has spotty support on free operating systems.
