The luck that I have had trying to get even simple changes accepted back into 
the codebase  is not very encouraging.   Also, it's not clear that the fix 
outlined in 6712112 is the "understood" fix or not - I'd spend the time if I 
were given what need to be done AND that I knew the fix would be incorporated 
in some reasonable time (and no, I don't consider > 6 months to accept 3 lines 
an acceptable time).
