Correct.  Though the OSS interfaces are going to be integrated directly
into Solaris in the next few months, so you will not have to bother
with installing extra bits after this happens.

Note that PortAudio supports plugins.  It current has plugins for both
ALSA and OSS, but it does not currently have a plugin for the Sun Audio
(SADA) interfaces.

I'd think the work involved with getting PortAudio to work with SADA
would be somewhat similar to the work involved with making GStreamer
work.  Note GStreamer already supports OSS, ALSA and SunAudio plugins.
Reviewing this code might help give an idea of the differences between
the interfaces, and the amount of work required to make PortAudio work
with SunAudio.

Short of doing this, I do not think there is an easier way to make
audacity work without OSS.
