Incidentally, another piece of weirdness has turned up. When the mouse points to contents of windows (like the reading/typing area of a terminal or email), I get the normal pointer. When it is resting over anything in the launch bar, minimized icons or window frames, it turns to a watch icon. It functions normally, it just looks weird.
