I was wrong there.  I assumed at first that only one specific slider
caused the problem.  In fact, any slider causes the problem, but it
has to be moved while the audio is playing.  Moving the slider with
the sound silent works correctly.

I don't think so.  There's lots of debug output, but it stops once the
GUI appears on the screen.  Moving the slider doesn't generate any
additional output, even when the sound stops forever.
