Hi, I thought that I'd have another attempt at getting my printer to work from
Opensolaris/Nevada over the weekend.

After running up a fresh install of b105 in virtualbox I enabled the CUPS
services using the GUI and set the print-service to CUPS - all good. I can surf
to localhost:631 as root and configure printers. Unfortunately the R230 is not
part of the standard ppd set and the ppd that I had from linux failed because
it calls different filters. I had tried just about every epson driver there
without success.

I installed Gutenprint 5.2 from the source (there is a gotcha - you need to add
the path to gcc before it installs, and also specify to build cups ppd files
iin the configure script). All is well and I now have a much larger range of
drivers to choose from - including a few for the R230.

I can now create a remote queue using the web based CUPS admin using
lpd://xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx/EPSON (the IP address of my DI-624S router with a USB
printer queue set up). I chose the CUPS driver for the R230 and all looks OK.

The issue is that in most cases a test page gets about half way complete and
then the printer stops, ejects the page and behaves as if the print job has
been cancelled half way through - spurious page feeds and rubbish printed. I
tried setting a timeout of 30 seconds in the queue setting with no change.

Firing up the VBox image of Ubuntu to check how it's configured and using the
same cups web interface the ubuntu CUPS setup appears identical - but works
perfectly. It's even running gutenprint and the same driver.

Am I missing something with OpenSolaris or is something broken. I had ubuntu
printing to my R230 within a minute, but after months of using Nevada I still
can't print.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
