I had intended long back to compile Inkscape but Inkscape also requires gtkmm, C++ interface to Gtk. But gtkmm failed to build with gcc giving some weirdo template specialization errors. Since templates are black magic to me I gave up and tried SUN Studio 10. It did not get that template error but would bomb 75% of the way through and vomit blood and brains.
