Stefan,
  It is actually pretty easy to configure gdm to use fvwm2. Just copy 
/usr/share/xsessions/gnome.desktop to /usr/share/xsessions/fvwm2.desktop 
and modify it to run fvwm2.

How did you build fvwm2. Do you have a pkgbuild spec file we can add to 
spec-files-extra??
