Punchline:
How can I get a desktop that is way bigger than my actual monitor?

Details:
First, I'm not talking here about the extra desktops one has access to
through a pager... I'm talking about the viewable area of each one of
those.

On another OS (linux) I learned to love working on a huge desktop that
can be panned as the mouse nears the monitor edges.

This is done by using the `Virtual' option in xorg.conf at the
subsection `Display' inside section `Screen' (between asterisks
below). As you see the virtual spec is 2048 x 1536

  Section "Screen"
    [...]

      Subsection "Display"
          Depth 24
          Modes "1280x1024" #"1024x768" "800x600" "640x480"
*****
          Virtual 2048 1536
*****
          ViewPort 0 0
      EndSubsection
    [...]

I've tried creating my own xorg.conf and adding that into it. I
Don't recall the details of the errors since it was quite some time
ago... and I'm a little reluctant to test it again since I don't
really understand how OpenSol... arrives at the desktop display.

My system is working very well and I don't want to lose X just now.

But how would someone running build 111b go about getting a huge
desktop like that?
