Gosh, am I glad I still run SXDE. There you're in control of things.
This behaviour you describe reminds me of Debian/Linux.
Also very picky at times on what was allowed and what not.

At first you had differences between the "old" solaris (10) and the
development version (11), but now Indiana has its own incompatiblities
too. And for the overall usefulness of 'solaris' that's not good.
