Just wanted to add that this is a very serious problem and should receive a very high priority. However, Sun's Beijing team thinks this should belong to the OO/SO territory, whereas, Sun Hamburg team told me that they don't understand Chinese. An encouraging observation is that I don't have any problem with Japanese characters, which contain a very large collection of Kanjis (Chinese characters). Thus, the problem could be a simple mis-characterization of locales or fonts in the compilation. If anyone is kind enough to build his/her own OOo binaries, I will be obliged to test them. Thanks.
