I had just upgraded from snv_78 to snv_84 -- where it started crashing. My workaround was to compile a version of libgnome-menu.so with a check for a NULL callback in cached_dir_invoke_monitors before calling it. I hope that the root cause has been fixed in snv_86.
I did try doing the complete JDS upgrade to the vermillion_86 builds, but that didn't work at all installing over an snv_84 system so I had to roll back to the original snv_84 and use the workaround above.
