Much better ? Did you ever compare the monocrome output for HG GothicB&co. when rasterized by the BitStream engine vs. FreeType2 engine ? Did you ever notice what FreeType2 does with the Hindi glyphs in Solaris ? xx@@@xx@@!!!! > > ... as alternative I suggest to enable at least the TrueType bytecode > > interpreter in libfreetype2 since this will improve the quality for many > > of the commercial fonts (which usually have bytecode embedded for better > > quality). > > Users can go to the advanced panel in GNOME font preferences to decide > whether or not to use the full interpreter in GNOME apps. Huh ? The FreeType2 TTF bytecode interpreter is disabled at compile time, not runtime. And a runtime option is AFAIK not a good idea either - it gives the opensource font authors the excuse for creating faulty fonts and then getting away with this xx@@@!!! by telling users to turn off the bytecode interpreter as "workaround" (and "yes" ... I am very unhappy about this. We had this discussion three years ago and the situation has IMO become worse since then... ;-( ). ---- Bye, Roland -- __ . . __ (o.\ \/ /.o) roland.mainz at nrubsig.org \__\/\/__/ MPEG specialist, C&&JAVA&&Sun&&Unix programmer /O /==\ O\ TEL +49 641 7950090 (;O/ \/ \O;)
