We discussed this on irc. Unfortunately gst-0.8.x and gst-0.10.x are incompatible[1].
At the GNOME 2.14 ARC review it was decided that we don't need to support parallel installs of multiple versions of gst, and we got a TCR[2] to remove the version numbers from the binaries. This broke the build of multimedia apps so I put the versions back and moved the versioned binaries to /usr/lib/gstreamer-0.10/tools and created versionless symlinks in /usr/bin. Also unfortunately, there are many apps that have not yet been ported to 0.10 and still need 0.8. Major Linux distros get around this by shipping 2 versions of gst in parallel. I looking at Justin's spec file and almost done fixing it. Laca [1] Why isn't it called 1.0.x? I don't know.
