There is a known memory leak in the TrueType font code in Xorg, which was fixed in Nevada build 40 - this should be less seen on JDS, which mainly uses Xft fonts in the clients and doesn't touch the X server's built in font support much. http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6245381 > Is there a way to "restart" Xorg without logout/login? Not yet - a project to allow for this is one of X.Org's Google Summer of Code projects, so it may be possible in the future. > Is there a possibilty of a Garbage Collection mechinism being built > into Xorg to prevent this type of memory creep? Nope - other than the occasionaly memory leaks which just need to be fixed, the bulk of Xorg growth is memory allocated by/for clients, and we can't free it until the client says it's done or exits. xrestop can help track down which clients are responsible, so you know who to kill, but that's about it. -- -Alan Coopersmith- alan.coopersmith at sun.com Sun Microsystems, Inc. - X Window System Engineering
