I think this is a known issue[1] with the "endian-ness" of CDs when being 
ripped on SPARC - have you
tried to play the exact same MP3s (ripped on SPARC) on x86? I would guess that 
the MP3s generated
are just static...

It's most likely the ripping of the CD stage that's the issue here. It would be 
could if you could
confirm (e.g. simply play the CD on SPARC using sound-juicer).
