We are preparing to move the Subversion source code repository for JDS outside Sun's internal network (SWAN) to an external server where community members (Sun and non-Sun) will be able to directly commit patches for JDS.
We are currently beta-testing this project and community members are invited to test *anonymous* *read-only* access to the repository, which is available now. What's Available ================ We have created a test Subversion (SVN) repository containing the "jds-spec-files" module. This contains the *.spec files, JDS-specific patches and numerous smaller source files. This was previously available as a periodically updated tarball from: http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/desktop/communities/jds/building/ The jds-spec-files module has been populated with a recent dump from our live, development repository. The HEAD (trunk) will be synced back with our live repository every few days on an ad-hoc basis during the beta phase. The module also contains some (but not all) of the branches and tags from the live repository. Note: the repository does not contain the community code from GNOME, Firefox, etc. This code is contained in tarballs downloaded directly from the relevant communities. These tarballs are used in conjunction with jds-spec-files to build JDS. How To Accesss It ================= You will need the SVN client application (we have tested with versions 1.2.3 and later). Evaluation SVN binaries and further help on configuring and using SVN are also available at: http://scm.opensolaris.org/os/projects/svn_help/ SVN client will also be available in version 1.5 of the JDS CBE, which will soon be available from: http://www.opensolaris.org/os/community/desktop/communities/jds/building/ Access will only be supported via the svn+ssh: (SSH tunneling) method. For this Beta, you should use the special username, "anon", to access the repository, eg: % svn ls svn+ssh://anon at svn.opensolaris.org/proj/svn/JDS/main-1/jds-spec-files/trunk % svn co svn+ssh://anon at svn.opensolaris.org/proj/svn/JDS/main-1/jds-spec-files/trunk A full checkout of jds-spec-files trunk should take approximately eight (8) minutes, depending on your connection, etc. User "anon" does not have any commit access. Where To Get Support ==================== If you want to report bugs or give feedback on the SVN repository/server, please mail website-discuss at opensolaris.org . If you have comments relating to the JDS spec-files code itself, please mail desktop-discuss at opensolaris.org. What Happens Next ================= This Beta program will continue from approximately 3-4 weeks. We then intend to move the live, development SVN repository to an external server at opensolaris.org by the end of September, 2006. Further announcements will follow.
