Denise,

If you can recreate this consistently, then can you log a bug under
defect.opensolaris.org so that we can attempt to track down why this is
happening, and fix it at the source. gnome-panel should NOT be crashing
when installing new packages, I am not seeing this problem.

There is an existing bug WRT menu items not getting updated but this
bug only exists when adding custom menu items under $HOME. When installing
applications they should be installing their .desktop entries under
/usr/share/applications, and should dynamically appear under your menus.

Make sure to include as much information as you can in the bug, such as

  - version of gnome-panel (gnome-panel --version)
  - version of GNOME desktop (gnome-about --version)
  - version OpenSolaris (cat /etc/release)
  - Name/Version ets oApplication Being installed.
  - Where application is being installing from, e.g. via pkgadd or IPS
repository, or from source (location of tarball etc).
  - Exact steps you take which reproduces the issue.

All of this information will help in determining the root cause.

thanks

Matt
