When you log-out and log-in, GPM is restarted so that is probably what
fixes the problem.  You should try the latest b105 which has a newer
version of GPM to see if you still have an issue.  If you still have the 
problem, then try disabling the screensaver to see if that's the cause.
Also, get the trace output from GPM when you have the problem by
killing gnome-power-manager and then running:

gnome-power-manager --no-daemon --verbose
