Things have been made 64-bit when there's a reason a 64-bit version is useful.

In the case of Xorg, it's because if you have enough money, you can buy
things like this:
http://www.channelregister.co.uk/2008/11/10/nvidia_unveils_4gb_graphics_card/

(and before that particular one, you could run into the 32-bit memory limit
 with various multi-card configurations as well).
