I thought I would contribute this if it has not been already, since I am a bit of a weather nerd.
You can easily add locations to gweather. Unfortunately, the source (NWS) is fixed and the applet can only retrieve forecasts form the NWS as far as I know. - Edit the file /usr/share/gweather/Locations - FInd your state/locality. You can add a line or edit an existing entry. Increment the loc number if you add a location. - There are four fields after the "locXX=" entry: 1) Name of location - escape spaces with \\ 2) ICAO abbreviation for the locaity 3) NWS Forecast zone for the locality 4) Three letter abbreviation for the locality's NWS forecast office You can lookup ICAO abbreviations here: http://www.nws.noaa.gov/tg/siteloc.shtml You can lookup the NWS forecast zone at each forecast office's web site. For example, the San Francisco one is here: http://www.wrh.noaa.gov/mtr/new_zone_map.php I'm not sure what the fourth field is used for, maybe to decide which URL to get data from. Use the one from a nearby location. International locations use "-----" and "---" in fields 3 and 4. This message posted from opensolaris.org
