What should xev show? I tried it on SPARC sxce snv124 and I got MappingNotify event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x0, request MappingPointer, first_keycode 4, count 39 MappingNotify event, serial 33, synthetic NO, window 0x0, request MappingPointer, first_keycode 4, count 39 when alternating between left and right in the mouse preferences dialog. The problem isn't that the preferences dialog doesn't work, the problem is that the mouse stays right handed regardless of either the gconf-editor or GNOME mouse preferences dialog settings in 125 and later (including os127). Whatever is causing this is common to sxce and Open Solaris and happens even with a completely fresh install of snv125. A separate but related issue is that the gconf-editor left handed mouse setting is ignored on every release (at least since 124) and it doesn't track the GNOME mouse preference (or vice versa) as it does on Linux (well, Fedora C10, anyway).
