Looks like it is indeed attaching just fine. When you say you cannot see it in the device list, are you really saying you can't see a mounted filesystem?
What is the filesystem on the disk? Have you tried mounting it directly? rmformat will give you a place to start - It'll tell you what it's /dev/dsk identity is, and, if you know what the filesystem if, you can mount it directly using the mount command...
