I think the point is, that you can't give a custom name for a new BE while doing an "update all" from package manager GUI (I think it was possible before). Why was this functionality removed? Renaming it later is possible, but why not to give a name right away, like with using --be-name in the CLI pkg. For example I like to see the build number in the name in particular - OpenSolaris-1 isn't really informative.
