Of course it is, if you have Xvnc installed - it doesn't rely on the framebuffer
and will give you a virtual X server that you can connect to using the vncviewer
client.

In later versions of OpenSolaris, the location of the custom.conf file has
changed from /etc/X11/gdm to /etc/gdm.
I would definitely recommend adding a password to the Xvnc session as described
