I could never get on with sunview (or open look) personally, it never
matched the way I thought. But that's just me...

It's a valid point, though - it's not immediately clear to me that modern
desktop environments, for all their bloat, have actually advanced in terms
of functionality, ease of use, or even eye candy (compiz being a relatively
rare exception there).

I wouldn't think of myself in luddite terms, but I think there's definite value
at looking back a decade or two, because there was excellent work being
done that we could learn a lot from.

I would welcome other nostalgic stories!
