Just to add something about i915 driver,
I reported a bug against i915 that freezes up X display (while running
apps in the background) on my Dell Inspirion D620 (i945), during time of
snv_133. Bug was introduces somewhere between snv_131 and snv_132. (Not
expressing untill 132)
It was present in snv_134/b and still present in OpenIndiana oi_147/148
and in Solaris11Express.

I 'think' that I had not freezing with using Illumos OS/Net (present in
oi_148b after upgrading from snv_134 to oi_148 and to oi_148b or
building Illumos OS/Net myself) but I have not test it enough time yet
to tell that it is truly gone form Illumos.

I suppose it might help having those fancy changes (15x, 16x) available
to wider public for testing from people like me, but they are not, so I
think I might add that problems for i915 driver arised for me all way
down around snv_132, before new Intel driver emerged in closed builds as
I heard, I suppose.

For some reason, I can not open bugs.opensolaris.org to show you bug
reports,
(Showing "This service is temporarily unavailable." - did Oracle Killed
Bug reporting??)
but from my bookmarks, they are something like:
http://bugs.opensolaris.org/bugdatabase/view_bug.do?bug_id=6958901
http://bugs.opensolaris.org/view_bug.do?bug_id=6986810
So I wrote down bug repot numbers in text file:
6857531, 6936915, 6958901
And last thing I wrote was the comment that:
"This bug will be covered by the incoming project, please see 6958901."

And yes, I think suspend/resume was working before with i915, but I
think that was untill snv_131.
