That's not an accurate statement.

I am running snv_170 and use GDM extensively (Sun Ray server, multiple users, 
console is also fine).

Perhaps it depends on how you installed 170? I upgraded (image-update) from 
169. It's clear that 7068018 affects snv_170 LiveCD (and the 170 Text Installer 
seemed to hang during installation when I tried it on another system).
