I am seeing this as well on natty. Like dtalk, it happens without suspending. It seems to happen randomly about once every other day for me. I don't know what is the difference between the times it locks the screen saver vs when the screen saver login works fine.

When I enter my password and hit the enter button, the system freezes. Before trying to login to gnome, I can switch to a virtual terminal and login there. But after hitting the enter button nothing works, the keyboard doesn't react. With the older kernel 2.6.27-8-generic everything works just fine. I use Ubuntu 8.10 on a Samsung X20 notebook.
