I have a similar problem on 12.04 beta. Logging out, and then at the login screen, selecting "ubuntu 2D" results in it getting stuck, just showing "logging in ...", but nothing happening. This does not happen if I select "ubuntu 2D" on the first login after boot, or if I select just "ubuntu" on a second login. This problem only occurs when trying to a second (or third ...) time and selecting "ubuntu 2D" and the login screen.
