it does have a "PICTURES" folder
Renaming it makes the MP3 mount like a USB memory stick.
But of course I can't access the pictures on the device (using the devices OS)
it also has a "MUSIC" folder, but Rhythmbox loaded everything at the root
directory... though moving things didn't seem to change it.
Nautilus also tells me on the indicator that appears above the tab bar that it
is a Picture CD.
Thanks for your help!!

Title:
Sylvania SMPK4444 Mp3 player tries to open as Photo CD
Status in “nautilus” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Bug description:
11.10 Oneric
Ubuntu 3.0.0-17.30-generic-pae 3.0.22
When the Mp3 player is connected via USB, the auto run window indicates that
I have instered a "Picture CD"
This is incorrect, however the MP3 player does have a camera, and can contain
pictures. The Unity launcher identifies is as a 3.8 GB filesystem, and uses
the MP3 player icon.
Overall a very small bug.... but a bug never-the-less.
I will test on the live Beta as well
