This is an example desktop file a hungarian radio stream with Totem not always playing when my internet connection is stable. Vlc always right playing this radio stream when Totem not playing the stream, but for example gnome-mplayer never.

Of course ubuntu-restricted-extras package are installed. The problem happening more time if I launch the playing for example in Desktop, I attached a desktop icon. Reproducation steps: 1. Put the desktop icon with your Desktop directory. 2. Try activate the desktop icon. Me not always working the playback this type streams.
