I have verified that I can install the latest version of the Google
Chrome .deb from Google using Ubuntu Software Center 5.1.14.1 in Ubuntu
Precise Beta 2. Therefore, I'll close this.

If anybody still encounters trouble with this, please reopen and note it
here.
