indicators appear intertwined with global menu

Bug description:
I have a two monitor set up, in a side by side configuration (left
monitor is laptop 1440x900, right monitor is external 1920x1200).
When mousing over the global menu on the right monitor (e.g,. upper
left portion of the right monitor) I can access the menus that are
normally in the upper right - i.e., the calendar, the sound menu, etc.
There is no visible indicator that they are there - the panel
indicators are in the upper right of both screens as expected. I can
reproduce this reliably when I have an app that has a global menu with
3-4 options in it (i.e,. of sufficient length). Screenshot of the
calendar appearing in the midst of the Thunderbird global menu
attached (but I can reproduce with other apps with menus of sufficient
length and with things other than the calendar).
Expected behaviour? Menus showing up where they are supposed to, and
nowhere else!
