Title:
Pre-existing empathy gtalk account clashes with the "online-accounts"
one
Status in “empathy” package in Ubuntu:
Incomplete
Status in “gnome-control-center” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
This is probably a UX bug for everyone who's upgrading and keeping its
old empathy configuration
Basically: if you have configured a gtalk account, and you try the new
online-accounts settings in the gnome-control-center, as per bug
lp:855917 in Oneiric you won't notice anything
in Precise that bug has been apparently fixed, thus empathy
automatically creates a new gtalk account
There are many things to be done to clear this bug (not all of them at
the same time):
- modify online-accounts to check if there's another one already configured
inside of empathy (probably not a good idea: it's empathy's duty to behave
well) or at least warn of the possibility
- modify empathy to stop using the settings from online-accounts (if the
related account has been removed from inside empathy and if they haven't been
modified in gnome-control-center since)
- modify empathy to propose to merge the two (or delete one of the two)
- modify empathy to display with a label, or something, that this account
hasn't actually been configured inside of empathy
Here is the old description:
------------------------------------------
Empathy creates a second gtalk account, identical to the first one...
when launching empathy it fails to connect with the bogus account, and
thus displays an error
after removing this account and logging off and on again, it appears
again (but not more than one time: it doesn't cumulate between logins,
it'll just create a single copy of the normal gtalk account)
this doesn't happen with the other (facebook, bonjour, msn) accounts
that I've configured
